A mosquito-specific IgE blood test measures antibodies the immune system may produce against allergens in mosquito saliva. It is a screening tool for suspected mosquito bite allergy, not a diagnosis on its own. Many people develop local reactions to bites, but a clinician may order this test when reactions are unusually large or persistent, or as part of an insect bite allergy evaluation. Results are interpreted together with bite history and symptom pattern.

The mosquito saliva allergen-specific IgE result is reported as a level, often described as negative, low, moderate, or high. A detectable or elevated level may indicate sensitization to mosquito saliva allergens, but it does not confirm that bites are responsible for symptoms or predict their severity. A negative result does not completely exclude allergy. Discuss results with a healthcare provider in the context of your bite reactions.
