It is a screening tool for suspected sting allergy rather than a diagnosis by itself. Clinicians may order it after a sting reaction, when symptoms suggest venom allergy, or when reviewing a Hymenoptera insect venom panel. Results are interpreted alongside the sting history and the nature of any reaction.
