The tetanus antitoxoid titer test measures antibodies against the toxin produced by Clostridium tetani, the bacterium that causes tetanus. These antibodies develop after vaccination with tetanus toxoid or after infection, and their level helps indicate whether a person is protected. The test is useful for checking immunity when vaccination history is uncertain, before certain boosters, for some occupations, and when managing wounds. It does not test for the bacteria directly.
