A nettle IgE blood test detects antibodies against nettle pollen. Nettle is a widespread weed that releases lightweight airborne pollen, and sensitized people may experience seasonal nasal, eye, or respiratory symptoms when it is present. The test is a screening tool to assess sensitization, not a diagnosis on its own. It may be ordered when symptoms follow weed pollen seasons or when a broader weed pollen panel is being evaluated.

Results are reported as nettle-specific IgE. A low or undetectable level suggests no meaningful sensitization, while an elevated level may indicate immune reactivity to nettle pollen and can be associated with seasonal symptoms. This test assesses pollen sensitization rather than skin reactions to nettle stings. A positive result does not by itself confirm that nettle pollen causes your symptoms.
